Codex reset FAQ
When does Codex reset?
There are two different things. Your personal 5-hour and weekly windows roll on their own clock. On top of that, OpenAI's Codex team sometimes announces a global reset that clears everyone's usage at once — those announcements are what this page lists, newest first.
What is a 'banked' reset?
A reset credit that is stored and applied the next time you would otherwise hit the limit, instead of clearing usage immediately. The Codex team has used banked resets for weekends and for compensation after incidents.
How often does Codex reset?
See the 'typical gap' figure above — it is the median of recent gaps and changes over time. Resets clustered tightly around big launches and incidents; quieter periods have gone weeks without one.
Does a reset apply to free users?
Usually the post says who is covered — 'all users', 'paid plans', or specific tiers. The 'Who' column shows what was parsed from the post; the post itself is authoritative.
